Listening to great violists can be deeply motivating. Here are a few artists to start with:
Kim Kashkashian – known for her tone and adventurous repertoire. Also look for her masterclasses on YouTube for technique tips and inspiration.
Tabea Zimmermann – lyrical phrasing, look for her recordings of Bach and Brahms.
Nobuko Imai – and elegant player in both solo and chamber music.
Lawrence Power – solo recordings worth exploring including more contemporary works
Timothy Ridout – an up and coming soloist.
